The influence of insulation and ceiling height
The required power depends on three factors: the size of the room, the level of insulation, and the ceiling height. In well-insulated homes, 50–70 watts per square meter is often sufficient, while older or poorly insulated buildings may require up to 100 watts per square meter.
- Well insulated: ± 50 W/m²
- Average insulation: ± 70 W/m²
- Poorly insulated: ± 100 W/m²
A 15 m² room with average insulation therefore requires approximately 1,050 watts. This corresponds to one 1,000 W infrared panel.
Guidelines per room
To make it easy for you, our experts have compiled an overview of the ideal capacity per type of room:
- Bedroom: 500 – 800 W (700 W panel)
- Bathroom: 700 – 1000 W (1000 W panel)
- Living room: 1200 – 1500 W (1500 W panel)
- Office or workplace: 300 – 700 W (desk heating)
- Terrace or veranda: 1500 – 2000 W (2000 W panel)
Combine power for larger spaces
For larger rooms, you can combine multiple panels. Two 1000 W panels often provide a better sense of warmth than one 2000 W panel, because the radiant heat is distributed more evenly. Furthermore, you can heat zones independently, which saves additional energy. For living rooms or open kitchens, we often recommend a combination of a ceiling panel and a wall panel.
